金融業界では最も有名な会社の１つである
ゴールドマン・サックスからの抜粋で英語を勉強していきましょう！
Financial statements（財務諸表）の Notes（注記）の中からの抜粋です。
Basis of Presentation
Basis of Presentation、訳しづらいのですが、直訳的には「表明・陳述の基礎」となります。
下記の具体的な記載内容をみてもらえれば、わからってもらえると思います。
These consolidated financial statements are prepared in accordance with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States (U.S. GAAP) and include the accounts of Group Inc. and all other entities in which the firm has a controlling financial interest.
この連結財務諸表は、作成されていますr。米国で一般に公正妥当と認められた会計原則（米国会計基準）にもとづいて。そして、ゴールドマン・サックス・グループ・インクと、その会社が支配的な財務持分をもつすべての他の会社の業績を含んでいます。
These は、statementsという複数を受けています。
in accordance with は、「～にしたがって」という意味を示す
頻繁に利用される表現なので覚えておいて損はないです。
accounting principles generally accepted in the United States (U.S. GAAP) ですが、
GAAP は、Generally Accepted Accounting Principles の略ですが、
「～で認められた」というときには、
accounting principles generally accepted in ～ と表現します。
Group Inc. とは、他の前半の記載で、
The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (Group Inc. or parent company),
というように省略することが明示されています。
すなわち、グループの最上位にある親会社です。
controlling financial interest は、連結財務諸表を作る際に、
連結に含める基準となる株主持分のことを示しています。
Intercompany transactions and balances have been eliminated.
グループ会社間の取引高や残高は相殺消去されています。
Intercompany と綴ると、ソフトによっては赤線で訂正を示唆されることがありますが
少なくとも会計業界では、１単語として記述するのが一般的です。
連結財務諸表を作る際に、数値の重複を回避するための手法です。
All references to 2023, 2022 and 2021 refer to the firm’s years ended, or the dates, as the context requires, December 31, 2023, December 31, 2022 and December 31, 2021, respectively.
2023、2022、2021という記載は、それぞれ2023年12月31日、2022年12月31日、2021年12月31日に終了した会社の会計年度、または、文脈によっては、2023年12月31日、2022年12月31日、2021年12月31日の日付を指しています。
たとえば、日本の大企業に多い決算期である「2024年3月期の損益計算書」は、
Income statement for the year ended March 31, 2024 や
Income statement for the year ended 31 March 2024
などど表現されます。
Any reference to a future year refers to a year
ending on December 31 of that year. Certain reclassifications
have been made to previously reported amounts to conform
to the current presentation.
すべての将来の会計年度を指す記載は、その年の12月31日に終わる1年を指しています。なお、今回の表示内容に合わせるため、一部については以前に報告された金額から組替表示が行われています。
先ほどの例の続きですが、
Income statement for the year ended March 31, 2024
という表現はすでにその期間が終わっているときに使われます。
一方、将来に終わる期間については、
Income statement for the year ending on March 31, 2024
という表現が使われるのが一般的です。
専門的な文章には独特な言い回しがありますが
慣れてしまえばむしろわかりやすいですね。
