Henry Moret
(12 December 1856, Cherbourg – 5 May 1913, Paris)
Henry Moret was a French Impressionist painter.
He was one of the artists who associated with Paul Gauguin at Pont-Aven in Brittany.
He is best known for his involvement in the Pont-Aven artist colony and his richly colored landscapes of coastal Brittany.
Little is known of Morets life until he began his military service in 1875. Jules La Villette, his commander in Lorient, who first noticed his artistic talents, introduced him to Ernest Corroller, a drawing teacher and marine painter.
Corroller taught him the art of landscape painting as practiced by masters such as Corot and Courbet, enabling him to register at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris where in 1876 he studied under Rudolf Lehmann, Jean-Léon and later, from about 1880, under the history painter Jean-Paul Laurens at the Académie Julian.
Olrik also specialized in still life, landscapes, historic, and religious paintings.
Some of his religious works can be found in Marble Church and St. Mathews Church in Copenhagen.

1856 年 12 月 12 日にフランスのシェルブールで生まれたモレは、エルネスト・コロレールのもとで働き、その後エコール・デ・ボザールに入学し、オリエンタリストの画家ジャン＝レオン・ジェロームに師事しました。
その後、1888 年にポール ゴーギャンとポール セルシエが率いるポンタヴァンの芸術家たちに加わりました。
彼らの象徴主義の作風は一時的にモレの作品に影響を与えましたが、彼が風景画に戻るにつれて、モレの技法はますます印象派になっていきました。
現在、モレの作品はサンクトペテルブルクのエルミタージュ美術館、パリのオルセー美術館、ワシントン DC の国立美術館、ボストン美術館、サウサンプトン市立美術館のコレクションに収蔵されています。
モレは 1913 年 5 月 5 日にフランスのパリで亡くなりました。
