Image of a diver sitting at the bottom of the sea |
We decided to start the Monthly “Okinoerabu” to share the images from a 360-degree camera on the ocean floor with people all over the world.
From 2001 to 2006, there was a period of interruption, but for five years, we did a live broadcast of sea turtles from Okinoerabu Island, “Umigame Live”. At that time, there were no optical cables in Okinoerabu Island, and we were broadcasting low-resolution images at a tortoise-like communication speed compared to now, but high school students from Okinoerabu High School reported the nature of the island, and there were people (known as “Kame-Tomo”) who were eager to watch.
The inspiration for the Monthly “Okinoerabu” came from wondering what effect the sea of Okinoerabu Island conveyed using current technology would have on people's hearts and minds.I want to share images as if I were sitting at the bottom of the ocean and looking underwater. I myself like to relax at the end of the day and look at the tranquility of the ocean.
I would also like to share the images with elementary through high school students for their exploration activities. Although the images are not full of attractions since they are fixed-point observations of the seafloor, we hope that people will observe what kind of creatures are there and how they behave in the sea where no one is around.
I would like to start a series of articles in the Monthly “Okinoerabu” in April.
